Application of lightning protection for insulated joints 

The high voltage caused by direct lightning and induced lightning will lead to the breakdown and damage of pipeline insulating parts such as insulating joint, insulating flange and insulating ferrule on the pipeline, and lead to the short circuit of pipeline insulating parts and loss of insulation function. The failure of insulation of pipeline insulation will lead to the failure of regional cathodic protection. At the same time, the mechanical damage of insulation caused by overvoltage will also lead to oil and gas leakage accidents. The purpose of eliminating overvoltage can be achieved by bridging the spark gap at both ends of the insulator or connecting a set of spark gap to the ground on both sides of the insulator. The low residual voltage of spark gap can effectively protect the pipeline insulation from lightning overvoltage.

The way of direct lightning strike on the insulated joint of pipeline is mainly the vent pipe of station and valve chamber. Enclosure protection class The electric spark gap adopts multi-layer fully sealed packaging process. The protection grade of silicone rubber shell is IP68, which is suitable for underground, surface open air and surface box installation areas under all working conditions. The protection grade of stainless steel shell is IP65, which is suitable for surface open air or box installation areas.

The spark gap can be directly connected to the pipeline through cable welding and bolts, or installed through the installation box and support.
